its been like a week. and i. think the most interesting thing to me about the tragic character poll is not that people are questioning why a lego and a classical figure are going to mega mega trauma war (a war so intense that none of the other brackets really had) that is actually not really questioned at all. it was actually just moved on.

when you look at it, its more about the deep rooted cultural histories behind both fandoms, the people that make these fandomsup, the psychology behind character coding in childrens television and how that reflects highly on lloyds character and his trauma(aka funny kid show actually has a young man with a Very miserable life). people wrote essays for both people detailing their lives for propoganda. random people from the Outside who do not care for either people have become shooters for them. how a smallish lego fandom and a huge historic appreciation for historic arts have fought, and then subsequently joined forces. fanart of them made together. them kissing and embracing. them being friends. two random very very very different iconographies who do not make sense. Most Tragic Character Poll is more than a tumblr blog to me it is art. it is internet history

the moment i got to this panel . i knew. famous last words lloyd. the even more fucked up part was that i was feeling the same way. like i knew that he would be in for a ride, but i was like "we've seen a good number of ending spoilers now,,, i am prepared for what we will face" especially since ending spoiler 3 was so ominous . BOY WAS I WRONG

THE IMMEDIATE CUT INTO THE DESTRUCTION OF THE ESTATE IS INSANE. right into it oh GOD AND LLOYDS EXPRESSIONS genuinely i loved all the expressions in this ep they were very good ,,,

and like the hell monsters too. actually fucking terrifying they look so otherworldly. THIS SHIT IS TERRIFYING,,, THEY LOOK HUGE

i really really love the creature designs in the manhwa, as sparse as they are,,, they aren't terribly complex but they fit well,,,, and the designs of these guys here are . SCARY SCARY SCARY its like a fucking apocalypse. jesus. the design of these monsters made me think oh god theyre hell creatures esp w the focus on helkaros recently and i ended up being right on that these r all creatures from hell . SCARY

ALSO JAVIER GETTING FUCKING BLASTED DOWN INTO THE GROUND FROM THE SKY HOLY SHIT NOOOOO JAVIER!!! GET UP GET UP!!!! AHHHHH

i like that lloyd reacted so viscerally to seeing javier getting hurt like that. he knows that these are visions he knows that these things havent happened and yet he yells his name and races to him anyway,,,,,,

AND THERE HE IS HELKAROS. honestly i didn't expect a full frontal assault like this, i figured helkaros would have tried to find a more efficient / hands free method,,, it could be that this attack takes place shortly after worthroad's attempt on the queen's life/sanity, but they managed to stop worthroad so helkaros decided "fuck it we ball" and went full firepower,,, the only reason i can see helkaros showing up personally like this is if lloyd Continues stopping helkaros' attempts to take lloyd, so i personally feel like we still have a lot of time before this happens (not a terrible amount tho,,, lloyd and javier still look to be the same age)

helkaros only having a SINGLE scratch on him is. a terrifying implication. NONE of javiers other attacks worked,,, only one, and it was probably the one with the demon king's blessing considering the color of the would is similar to the demon king power color. javier at his strongest and he can only land a single strike,,, TERRIFYINGGGG

and heres javier,,, christ,,, the most battered and bruised ive ever seen him tbh,,, HE LOST HIS HAIR SPROUT IN THE WARRR NOOO

javiers words indicate that helkaros did indeed come for lloyd,,, but that does make me wonder why the full frontal assault is necessary (especially since we see lloyd unscathed later). i think,,, helkaros is doing this to try and prove a point or something. and i think part of taking lloyd away is destroying what he holds dear so that he has nothing left,,, so that he gives up. ghhh,,,,

AND LLOYD'S REACTION TO THAT,,, AND TO HELKAROS ATTACKING JAVIER,,, AND HIM FINALLY REALIZING WHO THAT -1 IS REFERRING TO OH MY GODDD. HE LOOKS TERRIFIED. HE LOOKS FUCKING TERRIFIED

i figured that the -1 would refer to javier (it has to refer to someone who isn't supposed to die, and as far as we know, tkobai javier is destined to be left last alive and alone as he loses all his loved ones and drifts off) but seeing the realization/confirmation that it Has to be javier that is the -1 is haunting,,, god he looks so fucking scared, and worried,,,,

the worry still sitting on his face too as the future version of himself rushes in, ohhh lloyd,,,

here's the other part of why i think helkaros is specifically trying to force lloyd to give up ,,, bc helkaros succeeds. WAAAAHHHH TEARS CRYING SOBBING SNIFFLING

kim suho,,, the most tenacious, hardworking, dedicated man we have ever seen,,, the person who always finds a way, the person who has saved everyone on this estate,,, IS GIVING UP. THAT'S. INSANE. HE'S SURRENDERING???

"please forgive me" WHAT IS THERE TO FORGIVE? what has lloyd done? what does helkaros want from lloyd? we know the surface motivation of "oh, i want lloyd to work for me" but is there something more? okay, we know helkaros wants lloyd to Fully Give Up. he wants him to lose everything all over again. but is that all? why is lloyd giving up and begging for forgiveness?? pleading, begging, crying for mercy,,, oh my god. this is HAUNTING THIS IS HAUNTING. especially since he appears uninjured. i think helkaros put lloyd in a situation similar to the epic musical's Ruthlessness, where poseidon forces odysseus to watch almost his entire fleet fall. what conversation do they have,,, what lead to this? oh GODDD

EDIT - SOME ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS THAT I FORGOT TO ADD ABOUT HIM CRYING/SURRENDERING!! a mutual of mine, when we had read the episode, was wondering if he was truly crying or if he was fake crying, and that got me thinking, so i'll paste what i said here:

the thing about the crying in front of the mermaid queen and raphael vs the crying in front of helkaros is the level of depth and severity; for the mermaid queen and raphael, there were only tears and words, and he never outright BOWED (for mermaid queen he was already "bowing" but jsut out of formality). nor did he plead to the extent that he did with helkaros, as when he asked raphael to stop he didnt offer surrender nor did he say he was in the wrong for opposing raphael. the thing about THIS cryin scene with helkaros is that he is begging, on his knees, bowing DEEPLY, apologizing, saying he'll give up he's done just please don't hurt the people i love,,,, we've never seen him do that before. we've seen him cry, we've never seen him surrender.

not once, not ONCE has suho ever given something up. when he wants to accomplish something, he goes for it with whatever means necessary. but now we see him at his wits end, pleading and begging. the most hardworking, relentless, tenacious man we know just gave up. THAT'S TERRIFYING

AND THE STORY RESETS? IT. AAHHH??? though i suppose it makes sense that, if we treat the story/lorasia as a program, it constantly running into bugs prevents the story from finishing,,, but fixing the bug means okay yay let's recompile and start from the top,,, something like that. idk,,,

but even though it resets suho doesn't get to "reset" with it . that's so fucked up. this panel and the closeup on his soul (RIPPED IN HALF???) is so fucking haunting holy fucking shit.

this, genuinely, is probably suho's worst fucking nightmare. losing everything, AGAIN, and forced to work without a single shred of hope in sight, AGAIN. THIS IS NIGHTMARISH

my mind is stuck too on how he's just. in HALF. like okay we've seen full souls before (the og lloyd frontera) and while he didn't have legs either it wasn't like,,, this,,, it was just wispy and like, it was more at his waist than at the middle of the torso. however,, suho is genuinely just fucking torn at the middle there. oh my god.

my other mutual Sprout (javierscowlick on twitter) pointed out that this probably implies he tried to escape, and wasn't successful,,, ofc he would try to escape this is his personal hell for him,,,

that's his SOUL too, keep that in mind. his literal EXISTENCE is ripped in half. is he even conscious? does he remember anything? what did he lose from this? this is actually fucking terrifying . this isn't just losing parts of ur body, but probably parts of ur fucking MIND oh my god. brutal,,, so fucking brutal. HELKAROS EAT SHIT AND EXPLODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

something i am very happy to see (in the midst of all these scary terrifying implications) is that lloyd's first response after reaching the end of the vision,,, is anger. visceral anger.

the reason im happy to see this reaction is bc it's not the reaction of someone who has truly given up on everything. he's angry and dissatisfied and upset about what he's seen,,, he's not even close to giving up! he's rightfully mad,,, helkaros has no right to take the things he's worked so hard to protect, to take the people he's come to love,,, he worked so hard for this he's not gonna lose it all again to an entitled hell god. GET HIS ASS!!!

this does make me wonder how they're gonna go about it,,, it has been mentioned that the other great powers of lorasia include the dragon king and the archangels,,, and he already has verkis on his side! technically. kinda,,, maybe that's the angle they need to go for? or maybe they need to find a way to appease / stop helkaros before he gets impatient enough to commit to a frontal attack,,, it's hard to say. there's not a lot of hints,,,

ok well actually there's a couple little things i wanna point out,,, the panel i put at the top of this liveblog is actually part of a really long spread that shows many of the character's we've met so far (plus javier and alicia) fighting against hell's monsters! it looks really cool (i really recommend looking at the full thing its pretty sick)

the monsters themselves look incredibly scary, almost alienlike or xenomorphic. it's completely opposed to the style of monster that would fit in the medieval fantasy europe type setting that lorasia is established to be,,, i think that works well with setting them apart from what they've faced before (like these are HELL monsters).

and at the top of the spread, we actually see something really big, and probably really significant: an eclipse!

it could be that the eclipse is their deadline, or something like that. or maybe the eclipse is caused by whatever helkaros is doing,,, either way the emphasis on this is really important i think, a chekhov's gun imo - the adapter and artist likely wouldn't have put it there if it wasn't important. im so curious as to the significance of it,,,

,,, but we wont know til may 29th. AAAAAAAAAHHHHH AAAAAAA

what a cliffhanger right. insane . THIS IS THE FINAL SEASON TOO THATS CRAZY,,, we really are in the endgame now guys. HOLY SHIT.

i was told too that this ending spoiler was done completely differently from the novel,,, makes me excited to read the novel,,, and also i am curious as to whether they will change even more beyond this point. either way,,, exciting,,,

Oo boy where to I start. She emotionally manipulates the main character and then uses his emotions against him to revive his dad but evil. She ran a biker gang/cult and only let her three top generals know who she was. She went to extreme measures to get what she wanted, including burning down her palace and killing her adoptive parents.

some of her greatest hits include: Gaslighing Garmadon into hating Lloyd (his son), Gatekeeping being Garmadon's Son (even though she's not related to him and also a girl), Girlbossing her way to becoming the leader of a terrorist group while also being the Princess of Ninjago. siccing the terrorist group on the royal family, killing the king and queen because she hated them and didn't wanna be princess anyways, she'd rather be the evil puppet master behind a necromanced figurehead dictator.

Harumi is such a girlboss shes an orphan and was adopted by the emperor and empress and then BLEW UP THE PALACE AND KILLED THEM and she resurrected lord garmadon (evil!!!) and runs a criminal org/biker gang also she had this relationship with Lloyd where she pretty much just manipulated him but other than that I support her evilness

Okay so after an unfortunate tragic pass of her parents dying in a freak accident, she has dedicated her life in taking revenge on those who are even somewhat linked to their death. I'm talking, she manipulated her way into the royal family to get resources, starts a cult/gang worshiping one of the worst villains to ever hit the realms, and also completely plays with one of the ninja's feelings to get what she wants. Oh, yeah his feelings? She knew he had trauma, issues, just wanted to be loved, AND SHE USED THAT before leaving him to die on multiple occasions. She's also one of the few villains to actually win. Like she gets what she was aiming for, she wins. So yeah, Harumi is a girlboss.

P.I.X.A.L. Borg aka Samurai X

She gaslit Nya into thinking Ronin or Skylor we’re Samurai X, gatekeeped by protecting the monastery from several threats (including a literal Kaiju), and girlbossed constantly (See: the entirety of Ninjago Confidential)

she was programmed as an assistant, and developed love for another robot, robots dont HAVE love, but she found a way to love him!!! She was stuck as a computer program for a while after her body was destroyed, and then she secretly took on the role of Samurai X when she got a new body, and proceeded to kick MEGA ass! She beat the sentient eldritch goddess who happens to be hell itself, and then threw her into another afterlife!!! SHES AWESOME

RGB Sibling Headcannons

Okay, since it's been a while since I've posted something like this, I thought that it was time that I would finally put it all to paper...

Kai:

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Kai is lactose intolerant!

Despite knowing this, he would still take his siblings out for ice cream all the damn time! (Lloyd quickly learned why Nya was always the voice of reason between them)

Nya is a horrible back-seat driver, so whenever Kai's driving, he keeps a chocolate bar hidden within his reach. If she gets on his nerves too much, then he locks all of the windows and starts having himself a little snack...

Lloyd likes to prank him all the time by stealing his chocolate stash and replacing the wrappers with dried licorice.

Totally the most confident driver in the family...just not the most competent.

He doesn't need coffee to start his day, he's just not as much of a grouch if he does.

Nya might be good with mechanics, but Kai's the one who's good at math (It was a shock to everyone when he was able to keep up with Zane's lessons for Lloyd)!

Nya:

Nya has allergies and is allergic to just about everything that's airborne.

Despite all of that, she doesn't have much in the way of food-allergies (unlike her brother)

Nya likes sweets as much as the next person, but Kai made the call when she was young to let her eat herself sick, so now she can only have a little bit of candy before she get nauseous.

She is the most competent driver out of either of her brothers!

Just don't put her in the kitchen, especially early in the morning (unless you're ready to get hit in the face with half of a grapefruit).

Absolutely needs coffee (or some other source of caffeine) to really get a start to her day!

Despite being the Master of Water, she hates being cold and wet (if she's going to be wet, then she'd rather be warm).

She's multi-lingual, as in, she can speak several different languages. She picked them up from all of their adventures...she just can't read any of them for crap.

Lloyd:

Despite growing up and maturing, he still has one hell of a sweet-tooth!

Kai and Nya tried to get him to eat himself sick a few times when he was still a kid, but it didn't work.

He's a decent driver, but he absolutely couldn't drive with either Kai or Nya unless they were in the back seat (and even then, someone else needs to be riding shotgun with him).

Not a morning person, but he has been absolutely banned from having coffee (especially after the Lloyd vs. Jay drag race incident).

He can swim, but Nya never taught him (That was Zane, and yes, he nearly died trying to break his deep-diving record).

Lloyd has a natural ear for languages (thanks to his mother. Wu and Garmadon were crap linguists).

He actually started hyphening his name for a while to Garmadon Jiang after the evil side of his father was resurrected.

Specifically I think about how Duke is totally dying in Miss Holloween. There is just no way they’re going to give us a happy ending (Kim and Curt please have mercy on me with your acting the reading was painful enough i know the actual thing will gut me). I also think about how we’re also getting Macnamara back. It brings up all the questions and thoughts for me.

1. What was John’s reaction when he saw Wilbur for the first time after the portal was opened? What about when he realized Wilbur’s mind was gone and it wasn’t coming back? Did he try to bring Wilbur back? What made him finally give up trying?

2. Who is John’s husband? It could be Xander, but I’m leaning towards it being someone else. I just feel like the “i know what I have to do” “no don’t go in there John!” moment would have been bigger if it was, but it was mid Wilbur monologue so maybe it would’ve been too clunky to do more. We don’t tend to get super huge reactions to deaths in Hatchetfield shows so maybe that’s just irrelevant.

3. How old is Miss Holloway? She’s depicted in the black book. Does that make her as old as it’s author Willabella? I’m leaning no. TURNS OUT MEG LLOYD TALKED ABOUT IT BEING FOR ORIGINAL WORKING BOYS SCRIPT!! IT’S BECKY!!! BADASS WARRIOR OF LIGHT!!! We could have a moment where it just works out and it’s applicable anyways, but I think we can put that on the back burner and just consider it a depiction of her making the deal. I think if she was enjoying herself as a rockstar in the 1980s she might have just been getting used to her immortality at the time which could make her birth year anywhere from 1900 to 1950. Something about that doesn’t seem right either though. I just can’t get a read on her as far as her age is concerned.

4. How did Douglas Keane Sr end up in Wilbur’s crosshairs? Were he and Miss Holloway friends? He was probably investigating something Wilbur did as sheriff and got in over his head. I feel like whatever it was leads to the initial Holloway vs Cross death match in the starlight theater.

5. What happened to Casey and the three girls Miss Holloway couldn’t save? Is Casey one of the three girls? What the hell happened beyond the obvious hatchet men ritual involving murder and burying people alive to grow as trees in the witchwood forest?

6. Why did Ethan recite the magical hat speech Miss Holloway gives to kids to Hannah in Black Friday? Where did he learn it? He totally had a touch of the gift and needed Miss Holloway’s help at some point in his life didn’t he? I also love the idea of all of the people being targeted by the Lords in Black like Paul and Ted having a touch of the gift even though there is no canonical support for that.

rant under cut ab dr ratio

i know we don't know much about his actual personal life just yet, but it feels less like earning nous' gaze is earned by intelligence but rather drive to your field. your passion willing to push the boundaries of what's known- ruan mei as an example.

until ratio does something worthwhile like idk, preventing the mass extinction of sentient inorganic life in hopes of stopping an egopowered supercomputer (screwllum vs emperor rupert i) or continued to actively reject the genius society despite MULTIPLE INVITATIONS (ruan mei) or having mass intellect, developing the simulated universe from an OUTSIDE LOCATION and being acknowledged as insanely smart but refusing to actually use it (stephen lloyd) he won't ever be acknowledged by nous.

it isn't a matter of humanity, empathy, or anything like that- hell there's still genius members we haven't met because they're all various levels of too invested in their work, introverted/anti-social, or something else that has nothing to do with morality.

dr ratio's prime drive outside of spreading knowledge is spreading himself outwards. he has ego, he actually put an entire space station in danger just to try and prove a point. like why hasn't anyone talked about that? dr ratio putting the station in crisis just to stick his nose up at a small group of people-- two of them not actually caring at all, by the way. the entire conflict of the space station issue with dr ratio's introduction was entirely focused on ratio and screwllum.

and you cannot say ratio has empathy-- he makes his students cry without care, his class has an insanely low graduation rate, he's quick to insult first due to his own admitted bias before actually listening to someone (see: ratio actively insulting aventurine's race and lack of intelligence first). he refuses to debate people because he automatically declares himself a winner. his entire philosophy of 'spreading knowledge and curing ignorance' is counteracting his own actions with how harsh and refusing he is to accommodate to students. even if students that do graduate out of the 3% become experts... that is an insanely low number for a guy who taught 52 courses.

and we know why some of the geniuses are the way they are or why they seem less empathetic. like ruan mei's trauma with the death of her parents and the failure to keep family promises (seen in chara stories 1 and 2) caused her to spiral hardcore into trying to bring them back and nearly broke the biology of the abundance on her planet. she didn't eat until needed, didn't sleep, she was literally in a daze working.

or screwllum! while we don't know much we know that not only does he hate any mechanical constructs that follow rupert i's orders (which are to destroy organic life) he is utterly fascinated and enchanted by life. his own invitation by nous to join the society actively prevented the IPC from wiping out all mechanical lifeforms, further prevented due to his own intervention.

ratio is insanely fascinating, but he is not as empathetic as it seems. he's rational, logical and a jackass; knowledge and being able to carry a title is first to him, with how narrow of a birth he has within education. many degrees he has, but they're ranging from philosophy, mathematics, biology, and whatever- nothing within the realm of history, the arts, languages or literature. an argument could be made here that ratio specifically values mathematics and sciences above other aspects of knowledge, leaning into his bias, but that's just me.

"but his note to aventurine!" was a note explaining how he had an answer to aventurine's previous question. acheron had more of an impact on aventurine's almost-death in the dreamscape which makes sense, seeing as her entire thing is with nihility and death. it doesn't surprise me he figured it out, as he is a philosopher.

"what is death in a dream?" is a great philosophy question and would've been a treat for him to pick at and solve.

i love love love this closeup of the two of them when they're talking about this, i love that the artist shows just how opposites attract they are through their facial features,,, thin eyebrows vs thick brows, almond upturned eyes vs boxy downturned eyes, pointed thin nose vs rounder thick nose, slim and rounded jaw vs thick and square jaw,,, and of course, the swapped hair lol

there isn't much like analysis i can really pull on that i just think it's really neat,,, im not sure how much direction the artist was able to have on these two but their contrasting features complement each other well so i still think the artist has done a wonderful job,,, i love them so,,,

asratera aside, i really do love what bhdk is shaping up to be. it's very silly, somewhat chaotic, and the art is also that way, but it also has little drops of sweetness and brief moments of internal reflection, especially from credos and kimchi (which makes sense cause yknow... main characters). im rlly excited to watch their world build and see how lorasia came to be the land it is today in tged and cpsm,,,

The Senseis vs The Ninja's medical records

One problem Wu and later Garmadon encounter when dealing with the civilian side of the Ninja's lives: a severe lack of needed paperwork, such as medical records. This leads to them discovering some very interesting and probably very dangerous information.

Dangerous in that some of the things could 100% get the Ninja killed. Things that were supposed to be in their files but weren't. Hell, Zane doesn't even HAVE a file, his records only go back like 2 years. He doesn't even have a birth certificate, and the one, ONE time he has ever been to a doctor was when he was found by Mr Glenn, and he was thrown out as soon as possible.

Basically with how the regenerative nanotech works with Zane's ABSURD amount of injuries, it's basically the Flash's super metabolism crossed with anemia and diabetes. He literally eats more than the rest of the Ninja combined (yes that includes Cole) and he's STILL held together by bubblegum and a wish. Plus he's like 40 pounds underweight.

Plus the "glitching out" which is due to severe head trauma crossed with damaged bionic bits. That's another can of worms.

Then we move on to Jay, who has epilepsy, narcolepsy, and a missing power limiter. The only one on file? The limiter. Which Wu already knew of. The other two were not on his file because the doctors couldn't diagnose them due to his haywire powers interfering with the tests.

Guess how Wu finds out about the epilepsy? Jay has a bad seizure and Wu finds Zane holding him halfway in his lap to keep him upright and prevent him from hurting himself.

Next, Cole is allergic to coconut, which even he didn't know of because he'd mistakenly believed he was allergic to chocolate after having a reaction to a classmate's homemade cookies they brought to school one day, not realizing that the chocolate chips were made with coconut oil.

Him thinking he's allergic to chocolate isn't THAT big a logical leap considering he has an uncle (who he also didn't realize wasn't blood related to him) who is actually allergic to chocolate.

Cole (and everyone else) only find this out at dinner one night when Zane makes coconut shrimp. Yep not a fun night for the Ninja.

Him being half blind half deaf is already something Wu knows.

Now imagine the absolute hell he'll raise when he finds out why Nya's missing her legs and that Kai's are burned.

(Also Lloyd is allergic to, like, all forms of nuts which is discovered via pb&j sandwich. Garmadon obviously gets him tested afterwards.)

Got through Chapter 2. And 3...didn't realize how easy that one would be...

OHGOD THERE ARE MAJOR SPOILERS UNDER CUT!!!

In the lighthearted, fighting Fullmetal Hugger was hilarious as Morley just used his one Nightblade tech and it made him climb the wall with the boss! So while Palamena and Val were fighting the little crabs, Morley was just FLYING after the boss! Great end to Chapter 2.

Now, as for Chapter 3, which is all scenes...

As someone who has played Tales of Symphonia and Final Fantasy X, I knew we'd have some sort of "heroine doubts her mission" moment. Hell, the biggest difference in the setup (not the main story since things are proceeding fairly differently with the journey), besides multiple alms vs. one Chosen or Summoner, is that the main character and player both KNOW what's happening compared to Tidus or Lloyd being in the dark. So, when Eoren brought up a way out, I was just waiting to see how it was going to go wrong.

Wasn't expecting, "Use Val's power to turn Hinna into a Corestone." Eoren attempting to stop things with a flawed ritual...yes. Eoren kidnapping Hinna to use her for whatever his plan was...yes. Transferring Hinna's soul into himself or Val for whatever the plan was...yes. Nice to know the game surprised me!

We did get some time to explore the next area (and spend coin at Niccolo's). But taking a break. Unfortunately, being busy on Tuesdays and having to go back to work means I won't get to play until Wednesday...

MONDAY'S MUSINGS: LUMPING VS SPLITTING

Today's musings might be upsetting to some. Particularly to folks I like to call splitters. Now, there's nothing wrong with splitters, I just tend to be a lumper myself.

In biology and paleontology you have what are called lumpers and splitters. This refers to whether they prefer to split a species, genus, etc or lump them into one. Neither way is necessarily wrong, it's just how data is interpreted.

One example in paleontology is that of Saurophagnax vs Allosaurus. Is Saurophagnax really its one genus or just a really big-ass Allosaurus? I'm going to share with you some of the research I was able to dig up on the topic (and let me tell you, it wasn't much).

A study done in 1998 by David K. Smith compared femora, phalanges of the foot, dentaries and humeri (and a few others) between specimens from 6 major quarries: Canon City, Colorado, Dry Mesa, Colorado, Como Bluff, Wyoming, Carnegie at Dinosaur National Monument, Cleveland-Lloyd in Utah and the "Saurophagnax" site in Oklahoma.

He concluded that, morphologically (meaning through physical traits of the bones) there was no evidence of multiple species (outside of the Oklahoma site) and that Saurophagnax lies on the same growth trajectory as Allosaurus. Therefore, the most parsimonious answer was that Saurophagnax was not a separate genus. One point for Allosaurus.

In 1996, Williamson and Chure described large allosaurid bones from the Peterson Quarry in New Mexico. They had a partial pelvis, hind limbs and caudal vertebrae, However, the fossils had not been lab prepped yet nor were they reliably identifiable in the field. Later, in 2000, Chure lumped it in with Allosaurus. Two points for Allosaurus.

The biggest problem with Saurophagnax is that so little material has been assigned to it and it was designated based on vertebrae and size alone. While verts can be diagnostic, not all verts can be treated equal. If they were caudals, they won't be helpful at all. Never name something based off of size. That's just bad science. I mean, look at humans. If we based us off of size alone we would be split nine ways to Sunday.

Based on what little we have, I would say, right now, there isn't enough justification for Saurophagnax to be a valid genus. Maybe in the future we'll have more but for now, Allosaurus is just a hell of a lot bigger than we initially thought.
